Monday’s Insider Report: Companies insiders are buying and selling

Featured below are companies that have experienced recent insider trading activity in the public market through their direct and indirect ownerships, including accounts they have control or direction over.

The list features insider transaction activity; it does not convey total ownership information as an insider may hold numerous accounts.

Keep in mind, when looking at transaction activities by insiders, purchasing activity may reflect perceived value in a security. Selling activity may or may not be related to a stock’s valuation; perhaps an insider needs to raise money for personal reasons. An insider’s total holdings should be considered because a sale may, in context, be insignificant if this person has a large remaining position in the company. I tend to put great weight on insider transaction activity when I see multiple insiders trading a company’s shares or units.

Let’s begin the report featuring a stock that has had recent insider buying activity.

Russel Metals Inc. (RUS-T)

On June 4, Annie Thabet, who sits on the board of directors, purchased 1,500 shares at a cost per share of $29.05, initiating a portfolio position.

The following three stocks have had recent insider selling activity.

Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. (CNQ-T)

Over a two day period, May 29 and May 30, executive chairman Murray Edwards sold a total of 60,000 shares at an average price per share of approximately $44.73 for an account in which he has control or direction over (N. Murray Edwards Charitable Foundation), leaving an account balance of 60,000 shares.

Hydro One Ltd. (H-T)

On May 31, Ferio Pugliese, executive vice-president – customer care and corporate affairs, exercised his rights, receiving 14,381 shares. Days later, on June 4, he sold 7,712 shares at a price per share of $19.51, leaving 14,601 shares in his account.

Metro Inc. (MRU-T)

On June 5, Carmen Fortino, executive vice-president and Ontario division head, divested 5,000 shares at a price per share of $43.18, reducing his portfolio’s holdings to 20,000 shares.
