Cannabis Brief: Canadian and U.S. Cannabis Firms to Enter Joint Cultivation Agreements in 2019
PR Newswire - Tue Apr 23, 7:50AM CDT

Canada was the first North American country to legalize cannabis and that gave it an advantage, but it is the U.S. that is projected to have the larger number of consumers in 2019. U.S. companies will need the expertise of the Canadian growers and Canadian growers will need to work with U.S. companies to enter this larger market. Mergers and marriages should abound in 2019. Bloomberg, has said that recently, most U.S.-focused cannabis companies saw higher gross margins than their Canadian counterparts, and as a result, many of Canadian companies are beginning to establish operations in the U.S. Conversely, even with the U.S. having vast growth opportunities, U.S. cannabis companies are still expanding their operations in Canada. According to Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics, Canada reported legal cannabis sales in the range of USD $755 Million to USD $1.6 Billion. So in the near future, the U.S. and Canada combined, are projected to be the biggest market drivers for the global cannabis industry. Active companies in the cannabis industry includes: CROP INFRASTRUCTURE CORP. (CSE:CROP) (OTC:CRXPF), CV Sciences, Inc. (OTC: CVSI), Green Growth Brands Inc. (CSE: GGB) (OTC: GGBXF), Newstrike Brands Ltd. (TSX-V: HIP) (OTC: NWKRF), The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TSX: TGOD) (OTC: TGODF).

The cannabis industry has grown at a tremendous pace in the recent years due to the continuing legalization efforts seen around the world. The rapid growth of the industry has now caught the attention of Wall Street's financial institutions as well, who have begun to cover the marketplace. Investment banks such as Piper Jaffray, RBC Capitals, and Cowen have backed the industry by covering public companies that are dabbling with cannabis. For example, RBC Capitals analyst Nik Modi believes that cannabis is the next up and coming global industry. Modi expects the legal U.S. cannabis market to grow at a projected CAGR of 17% and reach as much as USD 47 Billion within the next decade. Currently, the medical cannabis sector accounts for a majority of the overall market share, however, Modi suggests that the industry will continue to be driven by the rising growth in the recreational sector. So far, only Canada and Uruguay have decided to legalize cannabis entirely, yet, the U.S. is still the biggest market driver. Even though the U.S. only has 10 states and the District of Columbia that have legalized cannabis entirely, states such as California, Colorado, and Nevada deliver over a billion dollars in annual revenue off of cannabis sales. Overall, as more states and countries move to legalize cannabis, cannabis is expected to flourish and become the next disruptive global market. CLS Holdings, USA Inc. Even Brighter Future Projected for Global Cannabis Markets

The potential future revenues for the cannabis global market is unknown, but each report projects growth, growth and more growth. The renowned Bank of Montreal (BMO) had two of the bank's cannabis sector analysts, to seek: "… to determine just how big the total addressable market Canadian producers will be competing for in the coming years, one that doesn't stop at Canada's borders." said an article in the Financial Post. The article revealed what the bank's report said: "The potential of the global cannabis industry is so vast that it could eventually make the sky-high valuations of some Canadian licensed producers look like bargains, according to a new report from Bank of Montreal. Assuming a blue-sky scenario in which the U.S. and all 28 countries in the EU legalize marijuana for both recreational and medical use -- and in which Latin America allows the medical use of cannabis -- they project that in seven years the market could reach $194 billion, a number that significantly dwarfs the $5.9 billion in potential revenue they anticipate will be generated by the Canadian medical and recreational markets." Active Companies from around the market with current developments this week include: MYM Nutraceuticals Inc. (CSE: MYM) (OTC: MYMMF), The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TSX: TGOD) (OTC: TGODF), Aphria Inc. (NYSE: APHA) (TSX: APHA), HEXO Corp. (NYSE: HEXO) (TSX: HEXO), Newstrike Brands (TSX-V: HIP) (OTC: NWKRF).
