Zinc Nacional Announces Capacity Expansion Plans in Mexico and in the USA

Business Wire - Fri Oct 22, 2021

Zinc Nacional, SA (“ZN”), a global leading provider of high-quality zinc compounds, announced today that it will expand its production capacity. This includes building a 7,000 tpy French Process zinc oxide facility in Mexico, followed by an additional 10,000 tpy facility in the USA.

“This process is set up in two phases. We will first expand our French Process annual capacity by 7,000 tons in our Monterrey, Mexico facility to begin operations in the third quarter of 2022. This expansion will complement our growth in American Process zinc oxide capacity and will enable us to serve the North American market with up to 15,000 tpy of Custom-Made Zinc Oxide of different grades. These will target the tire, rubber, lubricant, and chemical industries, as well as other industries the Company currently serves,” said Eduardo Alverde, Chief Executive Officer of Zinc Nacional. “The second phase of this expansion will be ready by the first quarter of 2023, with an additional capacity of 10,000 tpy of French Process and Custom-Made zinc oxides. This new expansion will be fed with additional recycled zinc units from ZN’s new EAF dust recycling facility in Logansport, Indiana that will begin operations next month.”

The Company did not reveal the location of this new operation, but Millport, Alabama and Logansport, Indiana are the two sites being considered, where ZN currently has Waelz Oxide production operations. “We are carefully studying the location of this operation according to our customers’ needs,” commented Antonio Carrandi, ZN’s Sales VP.

“This is proof of Zinc Nacional’s strong position and our commitment to keep delivering high quality products to current and new clients throughout North America and the World,” mentioned Mr. Alverde.

“We are confident the timing is right for such an investment since the markets have shown quick recoveries, and we are very optimistic of medium and long-term growth in the industries we serve,” said Mr. Carrandi.
