Actor Charlie Sheen speaks to media on the red carpet at the Joe Carter Classic After-Party in Toronto on Wednesday August 15, 2012.Aaron Vincent Elkaim/The Canadian Press

Thanks to his epic scandal, we all know that Charlie Sheen likes a good old-fashioned bacchanalia filled with cocaine and porn stars. And now we know this about the man, too: Wherever his late-night antics have taken him – shudder to think – his heart's in a good place.

The 47-year-old actor was talking to a cop from Hermosa Beach, Calif., who told Sheen about a fellow officer whose 10-year-old daughter is fighting childhood rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that forms in muscle tissue and is treated with surgery, chemo and radiation therapy.

"No parent should have to watch their kid go through that," Sheen said to the officer, according to TMZ. The Anger Management star then contributed to a fund started to help the little girl, writing a cheque for $75,000 to the Hermosa Beach Police Association.

This piece of celebrity do-goodery comes on the heels of another charitable donation – the star, who has an estimated net worth of $84-million, recently gave Lindsay Lohan $100,000 to help her pay off her tax bill, for which, he's pointed out, she hasn't even said thank you. Maybe Lilo – and I can't believe I'm saying this – should take a page from Charlie Sheen's playbook and take the high road.
