Gwyneth Paltrow and friends. Flanking Paltrow in the picture: World-renowned fashion designer Stella McCartney, talk-show host Chelsea Handler, singer Gwen Stefani, film director Sam Taylor-Wood, reality-TV star Nicole Richie and actress Naomi Watts.

For anyone who has ever attempted to replicate Ellen's famous Oscar-night selfie, know that your version pales sadly in comparison to the one taken by Gwyneth Paltrow.

The Oscar-winning actress, who recently announced her split from husband Chris Martin, posted her own take on the group selfie following what appears to be a giddy girls night out in Hollywood.

In the photograph, which was snapped at the vegan restaurant Crossroads in West Hollywood on the weekend, a beaming Paltrow poses with a veritable who's who of female A-listers from the worlds of TV, film, fashion and music.

Now compare the talent range on display in Paltrow's picture to the shot orchestrated by Ellen DeGeneres while hosting the Oscars last month.

Sure, the Ellen shot had the star power of Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt and Jenifer Lawrence, but Channing Tatum and Lupita Nyongo'o's brother Peter? Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

The Paltrow selfie comes a few days after she shared a picture of her posing serenely with daughter Apple and son Moses during their recent trip to a Bahamas resort – the same trip she went on with soon-to-be ex-husband Martin shortly before announcing their "conscious uncoupling."

And while Ms. Paltrow is always a strong contender in Star magazine's "Most Hated Celebrity" competition (last year's winner, she finished sixth in this year's poll), the new selfie suddenly gives people a chance to despise her all over again.

To whit: Don't hate Gwyneth because she's rich, thin and beautiful. Hate her because she has fantastic famous friends.
