MORNING MINDY

Mindy Kaling had such a disappointing morning that she went back to sleep before lunch. The Mindy Project creator and actress was up early to announce the Emmy nominations in a live webstream with co-host Carson Daly – but didn’t receive any nominations herself. Around 9 a.m. EST today she tweeted: “Well, back to bed.”

BROOKLYN ONE

There’s some new evidence that not all awards shows are the same! Brooklyn Nine-Nine won two major awards at the Golden Globes: Best Comedy Series and Best Lead Actor for Andy Samberg – he’s the cute guy formerly or Saturday Night Live who created popular music-video parodies like I’m on a Boat. Despite these wins, the Fox comedy only got a single nod for Andre Braugher (Supporting Actor) at this year’s Emmy nominations.

STAR PRISONERS

Orange is the New Black has a 50-50 chance of winning an award for Guest Actress in a Comedy: three out of the six nominees are OITNB alumnae. Natasha Lyonne plays the straight-talking Nicky, Uzo Aduba plays sweet and unstable Crazy Eyes, and Laverne Cox plays wise Sophia. Cox is the first transgender person to be nominated for an Emmy.

TRUE LEADS

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both received nominations for Lead Actor in a Drama for playing detectives in the breakout hit of the year, HBO’s anthology series True Detective. The actors are up against previous winner Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom) and previous nominees Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men). They may be co-stars, but critics are leaning toward McConaughey for the win.
