SNEAK PEEK

We're still six months away from the movie version of Gone Girl, but it's never too early for a trailer. Based on the bestseller by Gillian Flynn, the much-anticipated crime drama is directed by David Fincher and stars Ben Affleck as a man who goes searching for his wife, played by Rosamund Pike, after she disappears on their fifth wedding anniversary. In cinema-style terms, the film looks much like earlier Fincher films like Seven and Fight Club, with multiple dark interior photography and drab lighting offset by sporadic points of brightness. Ex-Psychedelic Furs frontman Richard Butler's performance of the Elvis Costello song She serves as the soundtrack for the trailer. Gone Girl opens in theatres on October 3.

FORMAL REQUEST

Bryan Cranston recently broke out his Breaking Bad persona for a good cause: to help a teenager get a date for his prom. Stefan Montana, a high-school senior in Los Gatos, Calif., personally enlisted the actor to make a video in character as drug kingpin Walter White to impress a classmate named Maddy. In the video, Cranston/White reworked a famous line from Breaking Bad by stating ominously, "If you don't go to the prom with Stefan, then maybe your best course of action would be to tread lightly." The video obviously worked: Shortly after, Montana went on Twitter to post the comment, "She said yes!"

The rumours began with reports that guitarist and songwriter Malcolm Young, 61, recently returned to the band's homeland of Australia in order to spend more time with his family. Last week, Aussie entertainment journalist Peter Ford tweeted, "There is a sad story behind all this that I have chosen not to report." The breakup reports run contrary to AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson recently announcing the band would record their 16th studio album in Vancouver next month.
