DAMAGE CONTROL

Dean McDermott has attempted to make amends with Tori Spelling by giving her a vintage ring for their eighth wedding anniversary. McDermott, who completed a stint in rehab after admitting to cheating on his wife last year, gave Spelling a hand-engraved, Renaissance-inspired ring set in 18-carat gold with pear-sharped sapphires and square-cut rubies earlier this week. "Dean wanted to keep tradition and celebrate their anniversary and 'love story' with a very special, beautiful ring set in gold," said jewellery designer Neil Lane. The strained marriage between McDermott and Spelling, who married in 2003 and have four children together, is currently supplying reality-style fodder for the Lifetime series True Tori.

STILL MISSING

The man running CNN believes his network is giving the public what it wants with its incessant coverage of the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370. Media critics and even U.S. president Barack Obama have criticized the all-news network in recent days for its marathon coverage of the missing airliner, which lost contact with the outside world on March 8. "I think that if people want to be critical of CNN for over-covering a story, that's totally fine with us," said CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker earlier this week. "Clearly, the audience has spoken and said that what CNN did was correct." Despite the criticism, CNN has seen a huge ratings increase nearing 100 per cent in recent weeks.

TOKEN TRIBUTE

The New York City Transit Authority has converted one of their subway cars to resemble the diner in Seinfeld. Timed in consort with next week's "subway series" between the New York Yankees and New York Mets, the car is decorated to be a replica of Monk's Café, where the four primary Seinfeld characters regularly gathered for nine seasons.

THE BIG PAYOFF

Amy Poehler has finally returned Seth Meyers' credit card. The former Saturday Night Live castmates had dinner several weeks ago, after which they accidentally took each other's similar-looking credit cards. Meyers returned her card, but she kept his. On Wednesday night's episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Poehler teased that she used the card to go on a spending spree that included a new boat and a stay at a five-star hotel. Poehler also sent Meyers a prank selfie showing her with a stack of cash and both credit cards.

TROUBLE-MAKER

Lady Gaga is still trying to pick a fight with Katy Perry. On Thursday, the Mother Monster went onto Twitter to make fun of Perry's green wig and shiny robotic horse employed on the opening night of her Prismatic World Tour, which kicked off the same day in Belfast, Ireland. Tweeted Gaga: "It looks like green hair and mechanical horses are the thing now," to which she attached an unflattering emoji of googly eyes. The jab comes less than two months after Gaga spoke disparagingly of Perry during a concert in Austin, Tex. "Our music is so completely different," Gaga told the audience. "I couldn't be more different, really."
