MILEY GOES TOO FAR?

Miley Cyrus is no stranger to danger, but she may have pushed things too far with her onstage jest about date rape at a London nightclub.

On Friday night, Cyrus was midway through her scheduled appearance at the popular G-A-Y nightclub in central London when she brought one of her friends onstage to wish him a happy birthday.

Obviously in a celebratory frame of mind, the 21-year-old singer told the audience, "You know, everyone is a little bit gay. … It's the truth."

But no doubt a few jaws in the crowd dropped when Cyrus continued by saying, "Everyone's gay, all it takes is one cocktail. And if that doesn't work, sprinkle something in their drink. That's what I always do."

Say what? Did the former Hannah Montana star actually make a public joke about date rape?

By Saturday morning, Cyrus's comments were trending on social media with hundreds of Twitter users – including some of her 18-million followers – decrying her stage banter as being harmful and sexist.

Also weighing in was online gossip gadfly Perez Hilton, who said, "Even if she [Cyrus] was caught up in the moment, that's a really tacky joke to make. We expect shocking antics out of Miz Cyrus at this point, but that just wasn't funny."

At the same G-A-Y show, Cyrus wore a form-fitting sequined bodysuit and performed onstage with a large inflatable phallus.

In a recent interview with Bang Showbiz, Cyrus marvelled over the openness of British gay people.

"When I go to London, that's what it is," said Cyrus in the interview. "I feel like they are so much more open, much more here than in the U.S. where they're feeling trapped, where it's like, 'Can I even say I believe in gay marriage?' "

Added Cyrus: "Can I say that my favourite fans are my gay fans? Am I allowed to say that? Because half of America is still against it."

During her concert last Tuesday at London's O2 Arena, Cyrus also revealed herself to be a high-profile cannabis advocate.

"Weed never killed anyone," Cyrus told the capacity crowd. "So stop smoking cigarettes and roll a fat blunt."

But at least one person in Britain remains a diehard Cyrus fan: Mirror columnist Katie Hind expresses glowing admiration of the bold new Miley and explains the uproar over her supposedly outrageous antics.

"I shall tell you precisely why," explains Hind. "Because she's asserting power. Yes, little 21-year-old, five-feet-tall Miley – the girl known for so many years as a timid little Disney character – has grown up."

FAN REACTION

Justin Bieber chose the wrong public venue to impress his mother on Mother's Day. The Canadian pop star was roundly razzed by sports fans as he sat courtside with his mother Pattie Mallette at the Staples Center for Sunday's playoff game between the Los Angeles Clippers and Oklahoma City Thunder. "The entire place booed him when Staples Center cameras put him on the jumbotron," a source told E! News. Oblivious to the negative reaction, Bieber tweeted a picture of his mother holding a hot dog with the caption, "Took my mom to the game…She's more focused on the food."

Without mentioning him by name, Esposito refers to an unnamed actor who was "funny, smart, cocky, arrogant and a master manipulator" when they began dating. Esposito also writes that she got married to the Silver Linings Playbook star despite "an entire marching squad of red flags."

HITTING A NERVE

Infamous financier Jordan Belfort lost his cool on a recent Australian TV interview. During his sitdown with the Australian version of 60 Minutes, Belfort, who was played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the film Wolf of Wall Street, calmly dodged several questions about his current wealth poised to him by interviewer Liz Hayes – until she asked him, "You have an oral contract with your management, the Fordham company – is that an attempt to hide your income [in Australia]?" Belfort responded with, "I'm done with this, I'm not gonna get attacked here – you've got a lot of nerve, boy," after which he stormed off.

COMING CLEAN

Diane Keaton has opened up about her long battle with bulimia in a new TV interview. The Annie Hall star, who first revealed her struggles with the eating disorder in her 2011 memoir Then Again, revisited the topic during her appearance on The Dr. Oz Show last week. Keaton, 68, said that her bulimia hit its lowest ebb in her mid-20s, when she would routinely consume up to 20,000 calories each day. "All I did was feed my hunger," she told Dr. Mehmet Oz. "So I was an addict. It was of course the lowest point in my life."
