HARRY-MANIA

Harry Styles believes that his boy band One Direction is just like The Beatles – at least in terms of fan adoration. The brash 20-year-old singer is drawing notice for his recent interview with Top Of The Pops magazine in which he says, "We all sat and watched the film of The Beatles arriving in America. And to be honest, that really was like us. Stepping off the plane, the girls, the madness. It was exactly the same as when we got there – just 50 years earlier." Styles wisely buffered his statement with the comment: "But none of us think we're in the same league as them music-wise. We'd be total fools if we did."

SMOKE BREAK

Ottawa-born actor Jay Baruchel has inked a deal to star in and executive produce the big-screen adaptation of the Stephen King story The Ten O'Clock People. The project will cast Baruchel as a smoker named Pearson who returns to the bad habit with a cessation drug still in his system. The resulting chemical imbalance allows Pearson to see that many people in authority – including policemen, politicians and even the U.S. vice-president – are in fact inhuman monsters disguised as people. The movie version will be directed by Hollywood veteran Tom Holland, who previously lensed the 1996 film adaptation of the King story Thinner.

SECURITY CHECK

Everybody's talking about the security at the Sochi Winter Games, but what does Steven Seagal think? For reasons unknown, the Russian news program Russia Today recently conducted a live interview with the eighties-era action star to get his take on the Winter Olympics currently under way in the resort town. In his inimitable soft-spoken manner, Seagal told the interviewer that he felt Sochi is one of the "safest places around," but still advised caution. "I think you can never be too careful," Seagal, 61, said . "I think Sochi is going to be quite safe, but then again there is no such thing as a 100 per cent guarantee of absolute safety anywhere in the world, wherever you go."
