DOG DAYS

Lena Dunham may know whereof she speaks when it comes to navigating complicated twentysomething relationships, but she's still learning about pet ownership.

The Girls creator and star shared an Instagram picture of her derriere shortly after it was chomped upon by her dog Lamby earlier this week.

The painful-looking picture showed blood stains on Dunham's knickers and was posted with the caption: "My dog bit me on the ass and [Girls co-star] Jemima Kirke captured the image of a lifetime."

Dunham followed up by posting a picture of Lamby with the comment, "Now he's acting like he never nipped me on the behind. We will call @iamjustinsilver tomorrow and sort this."

(For all you non-canine types out there, Justin Silver is a New York-based dog trainer/behaviourist who hosted the short-lived reality series Dogs in the City in 2012.)

Dunham and Lamby have been together since last January, when the 26-year-old actress rescued him from a Brooklyn shelter.

Dunham expressed her lifelong dream to own a dog in a funny and touching article for The New Yorker last year.

"I imagine how much better everything would be with a dog. Walks to get the paper or a bagel," she wrote.

And at first glance, Dunham was clearly smitten with her new family member.

In her own eloquent words: "If you told me he was Marie Antoinette's breed of choice I'd believe you: a golden sausage with the most human eyes I've ever seen on a non-human. Lamby will be his name, like some French kid's favourite soft toy."

The tricky part: "He's had three other homes, three other names…" wrote Dunham.

All of which means Lamby came with some behavioural issues, which resulted in Dunham agreeing to mood stabilizers.

Last April, Dunham tweeted, "They misspelled my dog's name on his Prozac prescription."

But the secret to responsible pet ownership is perseverance and taking things one day at a time.

Late Thursday, Dunham tweeted, "The bite doesn't hurt that much. Just continuing to make pathetic excuses for my dog: he had a hard childhood, my shorts were too short, etc."

Good for you, Lena – and Lamby is one lucky pooch.

CASHING IN

Nicki Minaj recently received $50,000 (U.S.) to appear at a teenager's birthday party – and she didn't even have to sing. TMZ reports that the rapper received the hefty payday just to show up at the 14th birthday bash for Iyanna Mayweather, daughter of boxer Floyd Mayweather. According to reports, Minaj showed up at the ballroom in Las Vegas and stayed for roughly an hour, during which time she posed for pictures. Also at the party was Canadian pop star Justin Bieber, who reportedly received no recompense for his time there.

FIGHTING BACK

Actress AnnaLynne McCord has revealed that she was the victim of a sexual assault as a teenager. Best known for her roles in the TV shows Dallas and Beverly Hills, 90210, McCord recently told Cosmopolitan magazine that she was sexually assaulted by a male friend when she was a struggling 18-year-old actress in Los Angeles. "At first I felt so disoriented and numb, I closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep," said McCord. "I wondered if I had done something to give him the wrong idea…Believe it or not, I didn't want to offend him." In the same interview, McCord said she was routinely beaten by her parents during childhood and once contemplated suicide. "I have my message for women and girls: You have a voice. Don't put yourself in a box. Don't let the polite lies of society silence you."

GAGA MAKEOVER

Can the man who made Justin Bieber a star inject new life into the musical career of Lady Gaga? According to reports, Gaga has approached producer Scooter Braun – who took Bieber from YouTube busker to international stardom in less than a year – to overhaul her image. The reason: The singer's most recent album Artpop failed to attain the same success of her first three albums. "If anyone can help Gaga now it's Scooter," an unnamed source told the U.K. paper The Sun. "He's one of the smartest blokes in the music business. There are a few options for her but Scooter is one of them."

KEEPING MUM

Inquiring minds want to know: What's wrong with George Michael? The former Wham! frontman spent two days in a London hospital last week but his representative refuses to divulge the reason. The 50-year-old pop star was admitted for treatment on May 22 and discharged two days later. Michael's rep Connie Filippello told media that no details of his stay will be made public "given the personal nature of this matter." Filippello also said that Michael is still making music. "He is very much looking forward to the release of his new single in July," she said.

STRONG WORDS

Charlize Theron has raised eyebrows with a statement comparing media coverage of her personal life to rape. During a reporter with Sky News this week, the Oscar-winning actress bristled when a reporter mentioned the results of a Google search on her name. In no uncertain terms, Theron said she avoids Googling her own name because, "When you start living in that world, and doing that, you start feeling raped." Theron, who recently entered into a new relationship with actor Sean Penn, amended her comment by saying, "Maybe that's just me."
