With the rise of dual-working families comes the expectation that duties at home will be shared. Statistics show that men are indeed doing more housework and child care than their fathers, yet in many cases, the bulk of the load is still carried by women. The stress is taking a toll on family life.

This week, The Globe and Mail launches a five-part series that will explore the questions surrounding this new reality. What does the research tell us? How are women coping? What about men? How do children add to -- or ease -- the burden? And finally, what can employers, governments and individuals do to help Canadian families?

Plus, click the red dots below to see what the research shows about labour wars on the home front.
