The Product

Kate Somerville Goat Milk De-Puffing Eye Balm, $48, Sephora.

The Promise

Revitalize tired eyes with this gentle, cooling balm that uses goat milk, natural milk proteins and manuka honey to reduce puffiness, hydrate and diminish the appearance of dark circles and fine lines.

How it works

A plant stem cell complex made of tuberose, alfalfa seed extract and white lupine protein reduces the appearance of puffiness and wrinkles. Goat's milk lactose soothes and moisturizes dry skin, and biologically active milk polypeptides help reduce the signs of inflammation and restore the natural lipid barrier, while manuka honey heals and nourishes. It also contains light diffusing pigments that blur imperfections and fine lines.

How to use it

Apply directly to the eye area morning and night.

The bottom line

You know how I was recently praising the summer weather while lamenting the humidity and what it does to my already large-and-in-charge 'do? Well, this season's humidity is wreaking even more havoc in my head than on it. I'm talking migraines. They're frequent and last as long as a visit from your mother-in-law. Which is to say, too long. During these episodes, I skulk away to a dark room where I try to move as little as possible and send scathing text messages to whomever causes even the slightest noise from outside my doors (oh, my poor stepson). As any migraine sufferer can tell you, these headaches are accompanied by telltale physical signs, including dilated pupils and serious under-eye baggage. In a last-ditch effort to diminish their appearance, I applied some of this product and closed my eyes to say a quick prayer to the beauty gods. My reverence was immediately awarded. It not only shrank the bags under my eyes, but it also visibly brightened and smoothed the area. This balm is incredibly hydrating and soothing enough that it doesn't irritate my eczema, which tends to flare up with this season (seriously, why do I love summer again?). I give full props to this balm.
