Using your brushes daily can mix colours on brushes and lead to bacteria build-up, so it's important to keep your tools clean.
For daily cleaning, try using a makeup brush cleaner, which you can purchase in the cosmetic area in drug stores. Spray onto a paper towel and wipe your brushes back and forth until the colour comes off.
For foundation or concealer brushes, place the brush cleaner in a small container and dip the brushes in. From there, wipe on a paper towel and repeat until the product comes off.
You should aim to clean your brushes once a week.
With animal hair brushes, use a gentle shampoo and warm water. Baby shampoo is an inexpensive option.
With synthetic hair brushes, using a gentle hand soap to remove any build up is best, as synthetic brushes are often made from plastic fibres and can handle a stronger soap to remove product.
Once thoroughly clean, make sure to reshape the bristles and lay them flat to dry. The edge of a table or a ledge is best as the brush ends will air dry faster. Placing a book on the handles will ensure they don't fall down.
