Dark lip colours can add big glamour. When it comes to doing it right, it's important to keep the rest of the face relatively toned down so that your lips are the main focus. A simple application of blush or bronzer and a thin layer of eyeliner and/or mascara is all you need.

Tools:

  • neutral lip liner
  • lip colour
  • lip brush
  • tissue
  • lip gloss (optional)

Application:

Start lining your lips lightly to ensure that this deeper colour doesn't creep out into creases around your mouth. It's important to do this step because with a darker shade of lipstick any migration of the colour will be noticeable

Next, using a lip brush, begin applying the dark lip colour in the centre of the lip and move outward.

Make sure that you have an even, consistent colour application throughout both the top and bottom lip

Next, blot your lips on a tissue to remove the very top layer of this application.

Now, apply another layer of lipstick and blot again.

Last, apply your final layer of lipstick.

Applying it in layers results in the lipstick staying on longer than one thick application would.

If you aren't going for a matte look, top the lip off with gloss at the end.
