The question

I need to find a lipstick that won't dry out my lips. I have tried "moisturizing" brands and tinted lip glosses and balms, but nothing works. Can you help?

The answer

I have been through this myself and can offer two easy fixes. The first is to try one of the better moisturizing lipsticks on the market: Korres Mango Butter Lipstick contains mango, sunflower and sweet almond oil to keep lips hydrated and deliver a glossy finish. The downside, though, is that it only comes in six shades.

Alternatively, here is a routine for longer-lasting colour and soft, hydrated lips: Gently exfoliate your lips with a soft, wet toothbrush (best done after a shower), then apply a generous amount of lip balm to moisturize the lips. Wipe off excess balm and, using a lipstain for colour, start applying at the centre of the lips and move outward. These products literally stain the lips and won't budge until removed with makeup remover. Finish off with a protective and hydrating balm, such as RoC Soleil Protexion Lip Balm SPF 20, which you can reapply as often as necessary.
