The question

Is there a no white shoes after Labour Day equivalent where summer makeup is concerned? In other words, do I have to abandon my coral toes, beachy fragrance and bright mascara?

The answer

When it comes to makeup, a good rule of thumb is: If it feels right and works for you, then go for it.

But you should keep in mind that your skin tone is going to lighten up, as you'll be spending less time in the sun, so you may want to switch to a lighter shade of foundation. If you're looking to incorporate trends into your routine, try red lips and smoky eyes.

Just make sure you use the right colours: Cooler skin tones can pull off blue-based reds and neutral brown eyeshadows, whereas warmer skin tones can wear brick-red lips and golden browns.

As for polish colours and fragrance, think of those as accessories and consider a seasonal swap. Try trading in your coral lacquer for a rich pumpkin shade and spritzing on a spicier scent.

Fragrance-wise, I'd suggest a base of vanilla or amber. You're looking for something that's warmer but will mix well with lighter top notes. I'm a fan of Balenciaga's new Florabotanica, a scent that lends itself well to transitioning into fall. It is also a good idea to switch up your moisturizer to feed your skin, which will be affected by the change in the weather.
