Why does my volumizing mascara always leave flakes under my eyes? And what can I do to stop it?

Mascara contains small fibres of nylon or rayon that coat the shaft of your lashes to create length or volume, depending on the formula. I've had success with Benefit's Bad Gal Lash, an award-winning, zero-to-low-flake volumizing mascara that comes with a super huge, plush brush. However, if you find flakes no matter what brand you try, there are other options to get the look you're after. Try a lengthening mascara and wiggle the applicator back and forth at the base of your lashes, which will add volume to that area and may result in less flaking. Or, apply a few individual false lashes instead. You'll gain a thicker look without having to deal with any flakes.
