A scoop of sorbet isn't your only option for cooling off during the sticky summer months. At the office, lightweight suiting in icy pastels offer a chilled-out alternative to those sombre wool staples. And they're almost as refreshing as a frozen dessert.

1. Don't channel that unfortunate prom date in the powder blue suit and ruffled man-blouse. Instead, take a cue from Stella McCartney's streamlined spring collection (above left) and pair pastels with a sharp button-up.

2. Opt for breathable fabrics such as cotton or linen. They'll help you cool off in the heat. Hey, it's not just about the sorbet shades here.

3. Stir in other pale pastels in the form of a blouse or pumps if you're bold. Otherwise, stick to neutrals - no black, though - to ground the look.
