Calling someone matchy-matchy isn't the sartorial jab it used to be. In fact, head-to-toe is the freshest way to wear colour this season - and the easiest way to inject some life into otherwise dull office cubicles.

1. Don't be shy with brights. Dull shades such as grey or black can be overbearing when worn all over, but braver hues such as rich plums or cobalts still look professional without being funereal.

2. Break up the mono-palette by contrasting textures. A matte jersey dress, for instance, works nicely against the grain of a nubby wool jacket. Don sheer hosiery if you're going for full coverage.

3. Tone down the accessories when going uni-tonal. A brooch, belt or earrings add enough punch.
