The Secret Santa sandwich

Fernando Morales/The Globe and Mail

In the spirit of holiday giving, this banana and Nutella sandwich is meant as a gift for that co-worker who always has a lame lunch (Handi-Snacks cheese and crackers; a corner-store tuna sandwich wrapped too tightly in plastic wrap; a stale pastry salvaged from a client meeting).

Spread some cheer and switch up their perfunctory sustenance with this banana split melted between toasted, warm ciabatta.

Watch from the water cooler as their face lights up and they engage their taste buds for the first time. Ebenezer Scrooge felt less satisfaction purchasing a turkey for the Cratchits.
