wine review

The colour is chestnut, with a brickish rim, betraying 10 years of age. It’s attractively evolved in flavour, too, with a leathery essence of old – but clean! – shoes wafting over notes of cherry, hazelnut, moist underbrush and, just barely, prune-raisin. Drinking well now, though it might benefit more from five years or so in the cellar. Available through Vintages Classics, vintages.com/classics.
