Matt Fowles, the chief executive of this estate in the relatively cool and sparsely populated region of Strathbogie Ranges, likes to hunt for his supper. Hence the double-entendre of this affordable line of Are You Game? wines. The 2012 chardonnay is medium bodied and shows silky texture, bright, tangy tropical and candied-citrus fruit enriched with subtle vanilla. Bright acidity qualifies it as a spring, rather than winter, Aussie chardonnay. Try it with grilled shrimp or – if you're Matt Fowles – freshly caught quail.
