wine review

A generously flavoured and perfumed red blend from the coastal Maremma district of Tuscany. Lots going on in this Bordeaux-meets-Chianti combination of merlot, cabernet sauvignon, sangiovese and cabernet franc. Medium-full-bodied, it's ripe and comes with open arms rather than aggressive, closed tannins, thanks at least partly to its mellowed age. The flavours hint at cooked plum, chocolate, baking spices, currant jam and tobacco, and the wine hides the ample, 15-per-cent alcohol well. Available in Ontario.
