Former Tory MP Rahim Jaffer and former cabinet minister Helena Guergis, in a October, 2008, wedding photo. Federal Ethics Commissioner Mary Dawson on Tuesday said she would not investigate allegations against Ms. Guergis that had been passed on to her by Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

Should we call them a power couple - or a problem couple?

It's been a rough ride for Helena Guergis and Rahim Jaffer: There was Mr. Jaffer's drunk driving and cocaine possession arrest. And Ms. Guergis's meltdown at the PEI airport. More recently came Ms. Guergis's resignation as secretary of state for the status of women and her ban from caucus amid an RCMP investigation. Then there are reports that Mr. Jaffer, a former Tory MP, told business associates that he had access to the government funds and suggested he had influence in the Prime Minister's Office

Is it any wonder we're fascinated with this political duo?

Join Globe writers Sarah Hampson (who wrote this week's ), Jane Taber (who's been covering the story in the Ottawa Notebook blog) and David Eddie (who writes Globe Life weekly advice column Damage Control) in this week's Life Watercooler discussion to talk about the Guergis-Jaffer saga.

Why are Canadians so interested in this story? Is it because Canadian political scandals are just that scarce? And what can this kind of pressure do to a couple and their relationship? Is there any hope of a professional recovery?
