Sherry Lang-Laveau and François Laveau
How committed are you to a strict training schedule? "Sherry has more of a schedule than I do," Mr. Laveau says. "When I get home I get on the treadmill and I'll do about 5K whenever I can." It is more difficult for Mr. Laveau to balance the demands of a schedule with his job, which often leaves little time for training.
Have you ever had a running injury? "Sherry hasn't because she's just starting to run," he says. When he started running years ago, he had shin splints. "You kind of wear them out," he says.
If injured, would you take time off or keep running? "It all depends on what the injury is," he says. "If it was something serious then I would take time off."

Jean Choi
How committed are you to a strict training schedule? Ms. Choi's training schedule is mostly determined by mileage and how she's feeling. "If I do a long run one day, I'll make sure to do an easier run the next day just so I don't hurt myself," she says.
Have you ever had a running injury? "Lots," she says. "I'll overuse muscles or I'll neglect stretching." But she has never had a serious injury.
If injured, would you take time off or keep running? "It is really hard to cut back, especially when you've got a race coming up," she says. "But now that I'm older, I know that having an injury takes me so much longer [to recuperate from]than it used to, so I do cut back."

Jen Cooper
How committed are you to a strict training schedule? "Not very committed," she says. "I don't think I would be very good at following a strict schedule. I need to be flexible just given the fact that I have two kids … And even without kids, it's just not really my style to be so rigid in sticking to a training schedule."
Have you ever had a running injury? "I've had sort of a pain in my knee. That's a big reason why when I finished my half-marathon [in 2005]I thought, I don't ever want to do it again. … I'd rather stick with a 10K, maximum."
If injured, would you take time off or keep running? "I would take time off," she says. "I would switch to something really low impact like yoga or using the elliptical machine or my bike."
