Pounds dropped: 100
My turning point: I was in a bad point in life – I was in a bad relationship, working two jobs, in the food industry – just not thinking about the food I was eating. Then my sister started losing weight and I was inspired. If she can do it, I thought, I can do it. I saw the change in her, when she started walking, so I started walking.
My method: I didn't follow any diets. I just started self-educating, changing my eating habits and exercising more. (I'd always been fairly active but would justify eating a bag of french fries because I had gone for a walk that morning.) As soon as the first 10 pounds came off – not really noticeable when you're 250 pounds – it was incredible motivation for me. Just seeing that I could do this.
I watch my sugars, and I don't deny myself starches – but I'll have an open-face sandwich instead of eating two pieces of bread. That said, I have never gone hungry throughout this process – and if I want a chocolate bar, I'm having a chocolate bar.
My kryptonite: Ice cream – lots of it. Cheesecake Oreo blizzards are a once-a-week treat.
