Ontario has expanded its breast-cancer screening program to include younger women who are considered at high risk of developing the disease.

The program, administered by Cancer Care Ontario, has been urging women aged 50 and older to have mammograms on a regular basis.

Now, women as young as 30 will be offered the procedure if they are deemed to be at an elevated risk. For instance, women born with certain genetic characteristics face dramatically increased odds of developing breast cancer, often at a young age.

Details of who fits into the high-risk group can be found at ontario.ca/screenforlife.
