Daniel Evan White was a little-known B.C. architect who created a number of stunning modernist homes before he passed away in 2012. To stoke interest a Museum of Vancouver exhibition about White's work, the museum is inviting kids and adults alike to participate in an event this Saturday called "DIY Daniel: Lego Build Day."

White's work is a natural fit for the children's toy. "His style is really simple modernism … that has really clean lines, really clear geometries and no ornamentation And because of that, Lego is pretty bang on," says Adrian Sinclair, the event's organizer.

The Vancouver Brick Games and Vancouver LEGO Club will be on hand to provide guidance to struggling Lego starchitects. The day includes a "speed build" session where people will be tasked with building sets of modernist Architectural Lego, an open build to create whatever you want, and a Make Yours Like like Daniel's session.

Maybe the best part of the day? Designer Johnathon Vaughn Strebly has created instructions for how to build what's arguably White's signature work, the Maté House (although there's no spiral staircase in this version).
