I have three oil paintings on one wall in my living room and would like to reframe all three. Should the frames be the same, should they be different but pick up similar colour motifs (i.e., black) or should they be completely different? Please advise.
Without having seen the actual paintings, I would go, to the probable dismay of my fabulous framer Izzy, with matching borders for all three works.
Polished dark-wood frames, simple and elegant, will unify the trio without competing with the art. If you're feeling a little more adventurous, you could choose a different frame for each, creating a more eclectic look. But I would still unify the ensemble by choosing a similar colour or style, like ornate gilded gold.
And if the works are modern ones or especially large, you could let the artwork stand on its own and not have any frames at all.
