The Momhattan

Forget Earl Grey and crumpets, which Mom can have any time. Show Mother just how much you appreciate her with an array of haute twists on tea time favourites.

Here's a recipe for a cocktail - the momhattan - tailor-made for Globe Style by mixologist Rob Montgomery of Toronto's Miller Tavern.

Scroll to the bottom of this recipe for the complete menu, which includes three sumptuous open-faced sandwiches and scones with walnut butter.

If she is a tea aficionada, brew up a fragrant, exotic blend, like a rich, chocolatey Rooibos or rose hip infusion to serve with this menu. And would it kill you to spruce the place up before she comes over?

Ingredients

2 ounces chamomile-infused Flor de Cana 5-year-old rum

1 ounce sweet vermouth

2 dashes angostura bitters

Orange twist to garnish

Method

Infuse the rum by adding 4 teaspoons of loose chamomile tea to a 750-millilitre bottle of Flor de Cana rum. Let sit for 1 hour and 45 minutes. Strain infused rum back into the bottle. Combine all ingredients in a pint glass, top with ice and stir well. Strain into teacup and garnish with an orange twist. To make a potful, quadruple the recipe and strain cocktail into a teapot.
