Roller applies makeup perfectly, L'Oreal says

Test Counter: L'Oréal Paris True Match Roller Perfecting Roll-On Makeup

The promise

The roller is said to apply makeup flawlessly while allowing you to control the level of coverage. The makeup uses L'Oréal's innovative stretch formula, which promises an even, streak-free look.

How it works

The roller is made with soft-focus elastomers (a fancy name for rubber), promising even coverage and a velvety-smooth finish. Oils and gliding agents in the foundation allow the formula to be deposited evenly on skin.

How to use it

Roll the applicator over the makeup and apply to your face in single, even strokes.

The bottom line

It's like painting! Except, to me, painting is only fun if it can be done TV-style - i.e., by running a roller through some outrageous colour and attacking a white wall with haphazard, uneven strokes. Unfortunately, that's actually not the way to paint a wall (and also the reason my friends no longer include me in their home-redecorating projects). It also isn't the way to apply this product. Although I derived a great deal of pleasure from rolling the applicator through the makeup, the actual application required precision and control. It was a bit difficult to maneuver the roller around my nose and in the end I had to smooth the makeup out with my fingertips, as it looked a bit streaky. For the benefit of all parties, I think I'll refrain from wielding a roller of any kind in the future.
