d|bar at Four Seasons Hotel Toronto relaunch, Toronto

Last week – ahead of the crash of festivities that surround TIFF – the Four Seasons Toronto in Yorkville threw a party on Sept. 4 to celebrate its updated d|bar, the more casual of hotel’s two dining haunts. Superstar chef Daniel Boulud, the creative force behind both eateries, was on-hand to help launch the new menu; Four Seasons founder and chairman Isadore Sharp and his wife, Rosalie Wise Sharp, were also both in attendance to preview the updated space and wish the hotel’s owner, billionaire businessman Shahid Khan, well. Alison McNeil, of design firm Dialog, was in charge of the refresh, which employs an au-currant palette of blush, olive and shades of grey, punctuated with rose quartz and brass. For the duration of TIFF, photographs celebrating women in film and television taken by celebrity and society snapper George Pimentel will adorn the walls surrounding the space.

The Endings by Caitlin Cronenberg and Jessica Ennis book launch, Toronto

Later that evening and a bit further west on Yorkville Avenue, the first day of Toronto Fashion Week was wrapping up. Events included runway presentations from Mikhael Kale, who displayed his latest at the Royal Ontario Museum, and Sid Neigum who closed the day with his show at an underground parking garage. After the last model cleared the runway, it was time to celebrate at a party given to mark the fashion-filled week and to launch The Endings, a new book by photographer Caitlin Cronenberg and art director Jessica Ennis. The tome is a collection of photographic vignettes that capture women in the midst of emotional transformation; though the stories are fictional, they are said to be inspired by real life. Sarah Gadon, Julianne Moore and Emily Hampshire, who was in attendance, are among the few dozen talented actresses who populate the beautifully intimate images. An exhibition of the photographs is on at Taglialatella Galleries though September 19.
