Jeffrey Remedios is the co-founder of Arts and Crafts ProductionsJ.P. MOCZULSKI/The Globe and Mail

Jeffrey Remedios is the soft-spoken owner of indie recording label Arts & Crafts, which he founded in Toronto in 2003 with Kevin Drew.

Drew's former band, Broken Social Scene, is one of several famous Canadian acts signed by A&C over the past decade. Others include Feist and Chilly Gonzales.

A former employee of EMI's marketing department, Remedios has a well-honed nose for sniffing out talent. The track record is impressive: 20 Junos in 10 years.

He's also a nice guy. Rolling Stone magazine has singled out his label as a model of good management, underscoring A&C's collaborative approach to good music making.

The Globe and Mail has previously praised his nurturing skills as being behind a Canadian pop music revival, citing the book Have Not Been the Same: The CanRock Renaissance, in which Remedios's label is singled out for having "managed to balance ambition and realistic expectations, casting aside defeatism and allowing the art to speak for itself."

We hope he brings the same instinct for picking winners to The Catalysts.
