How unconventional were the recent nuptials of Avril Lavigne and Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger? Well, for starters, the bride wore black.
Lavigne and Kroeger spilled the details on their wedding in a special edition of Hello! magazine and their big day, which took place at the Chateau de la Napoule on the French Riviera. The magazine had promised an exclusive interview with the Canadian rockers as well as 14 pages of photographs from their wedding in this week's issue.
Why a chateau? "I wanted it to be over the top," explained Lavigne in the Hello! feature. "I'm obsessed with castles and I love French décor and Goth. I found this castle and it was perfect."
The couple's wedding took place over three days at the chateau last week and saw them fly in dozens of friends and family members from Canada. "I also wanted to make sure it was a crazy vacation and an experience of a lifetime for our guests," said Lavigne.
On the big day, Lavigne, 28, walked down the aisle in a black Monique Lhuillier gown to meet her 38-year-old groom, who was attired in a basic black suit.
According to Lavigne's breathless account of the ceremony, "My body was overtaken by emotion. I saw him and he was so calm and happy. He had a tear coming down and he wiped it away. I felt so good walking to him. It made me feel like a complete woman."
Lavigne and Kroger began dating last summer, shortly after she terminated her relationship with reality-TV star Brody Jenner.
Before Jenner, Lavigne was married to Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2009.
Entering into his first marriage, Kroeger admitted that he proposed to Lavigne after dating for only a month.
"It felt like the stars had aligned," said Kroeger in the Hello! article. "It felt like fate was intervening and I was being given this wake-up call: don't let this one get away. And I think she felt the same way and that's why I proposed in such a short time span - because we wanted to start our lives together."
