Is Mike Myers more popular than Justin Bieber?

A new survey published to coincide with the Canada Day long weekend has found that more than 50 per cent of young Canadians between 18 and 34 would prefer inviting Mr. Myers to a barbeque, while only 8 per cent would choose the young pop star.

More than 1,000 Canadians were asked to create their ultimate guest list of famous Canadians, past and present, for a Canada Day barbeque. They were asked to choose five names from a list of 30.

The most popular guest overall was Terry Fox, with 38 per cent of respondents naming him to their guest lists. Wayne Gretzky was second most-popular, followed by the likes of Celine Dion, David Suzuki, Mike Myers and former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

Neil Young was the most popular guest in Saskatchewan and Manitoba, with nearly half of respondents wanting him to come over, while Anne Murray received more than 30 per cent of the vote in Alberta. More than 60 per cent of Quebec respondents said they would pick Maurice "The Rocket" Richard.

The least popular guests? Conrad Black received just 3 per cent of the vote, the same as rapper K'naan and Justin Bieber, with 4 per cent.

The survey, conducted by Ipsos Reid, was commissioned by the Historica-Dominion Institute, which is the largest charitable organization dedicated to the history, identity and citizenship of Canada.
