Did you see the baby who grabbed doctor's hand during a C-section?

Screen grab from CTV

It seems only fitting that the first viral photo of 2013 would involve a newborn.

But the image of a baby reaching out of her mother's womb to grasp the doctor's finger is nothing short of awesome.

Baby Nevaeh (heaven spelled backward) was delivered by cesarean section to Alice and Randy Atkins in Glendale, Ariz.

Before fully emerging into the world, the baby managed to wrap her right hand around Dr. Allan Sawyer's finger.

The picture has garnered more than 11,000 "likes" on Facebook since it was first posted on Dec. 26, 10 weeks after Atkins gave birth.

She told local news service azfamily.com: "We didn't think we were going to get such positive feedback. We thought we would get more negative 'that's disgusting …' [Instead] everybody just thought it was the best thing in the world."

Incidentally, the mother is a professional photographer; but, for obvious logistical reasons, it was her husband who was behind the camera this time.

The fact that the image appears in vintage-tinged black and white adds to its impact – not that the tiny baby fingers aren't amazing enough.

On her Facebook page, Atkins, who already has two sons, wrote that the response has been "unimaginable."

"It's been overwhelming to say the least but we are thankful to the most," she continues. "I, again, want to thank you all for your support, comments, and positivity. I also have to thank you all for sharing the … photo as much as you all did and all around the world."

According to The Star, Sawyer now has a copy of the photo framed in his office, a gift from the family.
