Dumped at Christmas? Don't burn your ex's gifts just yet

Nothing strips the sentiment off a silver heart necklace quite like breaking up with the person who gave it to you.

Never Liked It Anyway is an online space for the recently split to sell artifacts from the relationship, as a way to get rid of the baggage - and make a few extra bucks on the side.

Talk about a silver lining.

The online garage sale-meets-self-help aisle, allows users to post items for sale, usually at a deeply discounted "breakup price." One user is selling a Chantilly lace wedding gown for $250 under the title "I hope you're luckier than me." The self-help part comes in with the description: "I wish the lying fool would have at least paid for the dress and all the deposits we put down on the wedding. Instead, he left me broke & broken hearted."

Also for sale: "Silver Heart Necklace Charm – perfect condition unlike his heart!"

Ditto Ex Boyfriend Jewelry taps into the same idea: The site, equally ripe with resentment, also has a category for miscellaneous "gifts that should have been jewelry." The deal here is summed up with the simple tagline: "You don't want it. He can't have it back," and it serves as an alternative to pawn shops and consignment stores where the seller might not get the real worth of the goods they're trying to sell.

Others haven't been quite as polite.

In 2009, a 24-year-old woman in the UK scrapped subtlety altogether when she posted "Eight unopened Christmas presents from my cheating love rat ex-boyfriend" to Ebay. The breakup happened just before Christmas, when a friend admitted to sleeping with her ex-boyfriend - so the holiday bounty hit the online auction block soon after.

She did, however, vow that the money she made off the transaction would go straight to charity.

What do you do with an ex's gifts - keep, sell or toss?
