Martha Stewart wants someone to love. So where does a craft maven, multimillionaire businesswoman and former prison inmate go for a date? Where everyone else is looking, naturally: on the Internet.
In what is surely a PR coup for Match.com, Stewart is seeking prospective suitors on the popular dating website, as confirmed by one of her representatives to Business Insider. Under the user-name "the goodlonglife," which is the title of her latest book (another happenstance PR plug), she's an "athletic and toned" social-drinking 71-year-old divorcée with "an adventurous spirit" and grown kids. (While nearly everything else is on the table, she'd rather not share her faith at this early stage.) The professionally posed profile picture is fabulous.
"I've always been a big believer that technology, if used well, can enhance one's life," she writes on the site. "So here I am looking to enhance my dating life."
As she explained to Matt Lauer on the Today show, she's also clear that she's looking not looking for marriage. But, she said, "I'd like to have breakfast with somebody. I'd like to go to bed with somebody. Sleep with somebody."
There's bound to be some mockery about Stewart's gender-flipped Cinderella hunt in her senior years. But boomers are flocking to Internet dating sites – the benefit of virtual culling has all-ages appeal – so why shouldn't Stewart avail herself of the same conveniences? (She has her defenders already.)
That's the thing about famous people, especially those with checkered pasts: No one considers how lonely the mansion can be. Besides, if anyone knows how to combine the right ingredients into the perfect package, it's Martha Stewart.
So what kind of guy is Stewart hoping to attract with her Match.com shout-out? She's looking for a younger man between the ages of 55 and 70 who's "intelligent, established and curious." He can have kids, but he better not smoke. "I travel frequently," she writes, "so geography is but a detail."
