If you're wondering what to get the happy duo who has everything, your problem has been solved. Like many engaged couples today, Kate Middleton and Prince William are asking for charitable donations in lieu of gifts.

While they'll no doubt still receive sparkling crystal and shiny silver, the move will likely earn them kudos for harnessing their star power for good.

Guests and regular folk alike can see the Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund here.

It's certainly not as fun as snooping on posh china registries. There's no celebrity flash among their choices, either. Instead, many of the charitable organizations are deeply earnest and downright sobering. Bereavement care for military families and a group that assists in child palliative care are just two of the 26 charities.

"These causes are close to their hearts and reflect the experiences, passions and values of their lives so far," the site reads.

The one Canadian group on the roster is the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, an association of volunteers who rescue people from accidents at sea.

The group's site explains a bit of their history, saying groups like it predate Confederation but the group was formed in 1978-79 "in an effort to enhance search-and-rescue coverage and capability, and to better co-ordinate volunteer efforts."

And: "The organization has been saving lives ever since."

Would you donate? Is it warming to see the couple request charitable donations instead of gifts?
