The $777 burger: more ridiculous than the Double Down?

We've seen plenty of fancy-schmancy burgers in recent years, as chefs give the classic patty-in-a-bun the gourmet treatment.

There was chef Daniel Boulud's famous $120-"Royale" burger, stuffed with foie gras and black truffle. Burger King in Britain topped that with a nearly $200 burger, made of Wagyu beef, and piled high with white truffles, onion straws, lambs lettuce and organic white wine and shallot-infused mayonnaise. And then there was the $175-"Richard Nouveau Burger" at New York's Wall Street Burger Shoppe, composed of Kobe beef, foie gras, truffles and gold leaf.

But these creations cost mere pocket change next to the $777 at the Paris Casino in Las Vegas.

The folks at NPR tasted the massively indulgent "777 Burger," which is crammed with Kobe beef, Maine lobster, caramelized onions, imported Brie, crispy pancetta and 100-year aged balsamic, and served with a bottle of Dom Perignon. They offered the following assessment:

Mike: This may compete with the KFC Double Down for Most Ridiculous Sandwich.

Ian: What you need to do is replace the bun with two Bentleys.

Eva: $777 wouldn't be that expensive, if you just ate a little bit of it every day and that was all you had for the year.

The final verdict? "[I] really does taste expensive," NPR reports. "Some of us felt that the lobster overwhelmed the burger a bit, so it was more a lobster sandwich with beef, rather than the other way around. Still, delicious."
