And just like that, it's gone.
The KFC Double Down, the epic eye-popping, jaw-dropping bun-less sandwich, is no longer being sold in Canada.
KFC announced that as of yesterday, "Canada is officially a Double Down free zone."
Between its Canadian launch in Oct. 18 til its end, KFC says it sold more than one million Double Downs, making it the "most successful menu item" in KFC Canada history.
"That's enough Double Downs to stretch across 2,083 hockey rinks or approximately 140 CN Towers from end to end!" Dan Howe, chief marketing officer for the parent company Yum! Restaurants Canada, said in a press release.
Upon its launch, KFC had said the Double Down would be available in Canada til Nov. 14, but could put it on the permanent menu if sales were strong.
The staggering amount of buzz that followed the breadless fried chicken sandwich's U.S. debut in April sparked a proliferation of food chain campaigns, advertising in-your-face gluttony. The Denny's fried cheese melt and the IHOP cheese cake-stuffed pancake stackers appeared on the scene shortly after.
So even though it's gone, the Double Down's unapologetically greasy legacy remains. (And if you're really, really desperate for one, you can still find it across the border in the U.S.)
