Sahra Spa and Hammam at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las VegasEric Jamison/Studio J Inc

The treatment

I've been meaning to tuck into the spa delights of the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas since it opened to the tunes of Jay-Z and Chris Martin at a private party on New Year's Eve. Apparently, the Sahra Spa and Hammam was a big hit with Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz, who checked in after a Moët-fuelled marathon of merry-making.

I opt for the Cor Luminous Facial as it's designed to revitalize using Cor skincare products, which contains a nano-silver compound. Silver is the newly crowned saviour for problematic skin. My esthetician was thorough in asking me questions and examining my skin (a confounding dry-oily combination).

First, she uses Clarisonic's hand-held technology to deeply cleanse my pores for better absorption. After working the rotating brush gently over my face, she begins foaming up the facial's star product, Cor soap, between her palms. This is not just any humble bar; think of it as a dehydrated creamy foaming cleanser that activates with water. Next, she lavishes my face with a moisturizer of pomegranate antioxidants and marine collagen to refresh tired skin.

The silky finish of the accompanying wrinkle serum is divine and features copper tripeptide, used by plastic surgeons to repair sun damage. To finish, she applies a brightening eye cream made of macadamia seed oil, rosehip oil and vitamins C and E.

The Benefits

Nano-silver speeds cell repair and resolves imperfections deep within skin. Pores are visibly reduced and overall skin tone is more even.

The Spa

Inspired by Nevada's Red Rock Canyon, the spa's ambitious design called for a whopping 420 tonnes of sandstone. Despite the deafening hype, I'm not disappointed as I walk through a narrow sandstone tunnel that ends at a 6.7 metre waterfall; the soaring space mimics poetic slot canyons while silver ceilings mirror nights lit by the moon. Enchanting doesn't even begin to cover it. Easily one of Las Vegas's most relaxing retreats, this sprawling bi-level oasis offers separate wet areas for men and women featuring steam rooms, cool mist rooms and vitality pools with their own monsoon showers. As its name suggests, the spa boasts a 1,100-square-foot hammam. Catering to private bookings for one to four guests, this is one of those rare spa treatments that may be better experienced in numbers.
