Skip the bus tour of Rodeo Drive and head to Chateau Marmont or The Grove to see celebrities in action.Travis Conklin

Map to the Stars, David Cronenberg's new film, doesn't exactly take viewers on a Hollywood homes' bus trip through Los Angeles. Rather it chronicles more darkly the city's interior worlds of dysfunction. (Surprise, it's David Cronenberg!) But in our continuing cultural obsession with all things celebrity, we wondered where could one find a map to the stars without boarding a blazing TMZ minibus?

Enter Lainey Lui, one of the hosts of CTV's The Social, eTalk and the blogger behind LaineyGossip.com.

"I find the whole word of celebrity culture fascinating. I did a TED talk on the sociology of gossip and celebrity culture. Essentially, Hollywood is my laboratory," says Lui, who is frequently in L.A. to interview movie stars and has worked the red carpet at the Oscars.

Make the following five stops when you're in L.A. and Lui pretty much guarantees you'll spot someone famous.

Chateau Marmont

"Celebrities are there every single day. If you book a bungalow or get a reservation there, you're going to see a celebrity. Historically, it's a place where celebrities feel safe. It has an old-school vibe to it. You can feel that it's classic Hollywood. In this documentary Sunset Strip, Johnny Depp talks about how he used to stay there. Lindsay Lohan has lived there before. Celebrities have called Chateau Marmont their home. It has this tucked away feel, even though it's right on Sunset." 8221 Sunset Blvd., chateaumarmont.com

Sunset Tower Hotel

"The Sunset Tower has a really good bar. A lot of celebrities go there during the week to eat. It's hard to get a reservation. But you'll see the Jennifer Anistons, you'll see the Jon Hamms. Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield go there. It's a place where they like to go for a drink and for dinner. The bar is called the Tower Bar. I think it helps [to get a reservation] if you're staying there." 8358 Sunset Blvd., sunsettowerhotel.com

The Grove

"It's an outdoor shopping mall. There are a couple of TV shows [such as Extra] that shoot there a few times a week. Celebrities go shopping there often. It's definitely a good place to run into them. There's a Barnes & Noble at the Grove and a lot of celebrities do their book signings there. Lea Michele last week was at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove to do her book signing. And the food court at the Grove is great. Really good guacamole. I don't think you'll see celebrities in the food court, but you might as well do some shopping, get some food." 189 The Grove Dr., thegrovela.com

Greystone Manor

"Clubs go through a trending system just like anywhere else. People like Rihanna and Drake have been seen at Greystone Manor – how long ago was that? In April. It depends on the night, it depends on who the promoter is [as to what celebrities might go]." 643 N La Cienega Blvd., sbe.com/nightlife/greystonemanor

Brentwood Country Mart

"Gwyneth Paltrow was there [recently]. Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck have been seen there. They call it a farmers' market, but there are shops. It's kind of like an outdoor shopping mall." 225 26th St., brentwoodcountrymart.com
