Melbourne

Housed in a 19th-century building that was the city's oldest public house, Captain Melville is a hip watering hole that serves old-fashioned cocktails and a modern Australian comfort food. The interior is more sophisticated than the average pub, and so is the menu. With names like Beechworth Gunpowder and Hailstorm Julep, you'll have to study the drink selection carefully, or stick to a glass of local chardonnay to complement such signature dishes as salt and sichuan pepper squid on yuzu mayo, and beef cheek and white rabbit dark ale pie. captainmelville.com.au
