In the room: Say goodbye to in-room porn
Marriott International is pulling the plug on porn. The chain is putting an end to adult in-room movies in all its new hotels and this policy will eventually be implemented system-wide. The chain says the move coincides with a planned transition away from hotel-room movies and into Internet-based entertainment on demand. Revenue from movies has declined in recent years because most business travellers can now watch porn or other movies on laptops or mobile devices.
On the seas: Take a cruise, lend a hand
Passengers with Crystal Cruises can now visit a destination - and help make it better. Every 2011 sailing will offer a no-cost opportunity for guests to volunteer for the You Care, We Care program, which will include beach and neighbourhood cleanups in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, or visiting with seniors or playing soccer with children in Cartagena, Colombia.
On the ground: Man breaks both legs, wins $10,000
A U.S. travel insurance company has named Gary Feldman of Ventura, Calif., the World's Unluckiest Traveller for 2010. Internet voters chose him over other hapless wanderers in the annual Travel Guard competition. Dr. Feldman had just started a medical mission to Vietnam when he went to the edge of a cliff to relieve himself. He fell nine metres breaking both his legs. He plans to visit an exotic destination with his $10,000 dream vacation prize, possibly returning to Vietnam to complete his mission.
