A good room in NYC for $100? It must be Hotel Week

The buy: Hotel Week NYC is returning with up to 30 New York City hotels charging rates of $100, $200 or $300 per night.

The savings: Up to $200 per night.

The catch: The rates are available Jan. 3 to 12 only.

Why it's worth it: It's a less busy time to visit the Big Apple after the hectic holiday season and hotels offering the special rate are scattered throughout the city with new properties this year including Ace Hotel in the Flatiron/Chelsea neighbourhood and the new Jade Hotel in Greenwich Village.

The buy: Nita Lake Lodge in Whistler is celebrating its fifth anniversary with a series of specials.

The savings: The fifth night is free, you get a five-course meal for $30 at Aura Restaurant and there are $5 drinks.

The catch: You have to book by Oct. 14, and the Dec. 21 to Jan. 5 and Feb. 14 to 23 periods are blacked out.

Why it's worth it: Named as one of the top 25 hotels in Canada by TripAdvisor, this boutique property is on the shores of Nita Lake in Creekside and offers free

shuttle service to the slopes and each room is equipped with a 40-inch TV, kitchenette and gas fireplace.

The buy: Four alpine ski resorts in Switzerland's Vaud canton – Leysin-Les Mosses, Villars-Gryon, Les Diablerets and Château-d'Oex-Rougemont – are offering specials for families with young children.

The savings: There is free skiing for children and also free accommodation for children at selected hotels in these resorts.

The catch: The promotion is available for children born in 2005 and younger.

Why it's worth it: These resorts offer a wide range of winter activities from skiing and snowboarding to snowshoeing, tobogganing, sledging and ice skating.

The buy: Online hotel booking site is offering free nights to members of its loyalty program.

The savings: You get the equivalent of a free night after you stay 10 nights.

The catch: You still pay the taxes and fees.

Why it's worth it: This is available at 85,000 hotels worldwide with no restrictions, and the site offers many of these properties at discount rates.
