The roundup: three pieces of hot travel news.
ON THE NET
Keep up the slideshows
Contrary to common opinion, your friends may not be bored by your travel photos. In a survey by Skyscanner.com - an Edinburgh-based flights-comparison website - 88 per cent of respondents said they loved to nose through their friends' shots on Facebook. Half of those said they did so to "see what they had got up to and with whom." And 52 per cent of those polled said that seeing friends' holiday pictures inspired them to travel to the same place.
IN THE ROOM
Check up on your chambers
There are plenty of sources that rate hotels, but a new website may be the first to rate individual rooms. Based in Sunnyvale, Calif., Room77.com posts data on more than 425,000 rooms in 15 U.S. cities and London, with plans to keep adding. Users can find personalized matches by entering their preferences for such categories as high or low floor and distance from the elevator. An iPhone app is available.
IN THE AIR
Good news for the jet set
Last year's aviation accident rate was the lowest in history, at least for jets built in Western countries. It worked out to one accident for every 1.6 million flights, according to the International Air Transport Association. The 2010 rate was down 42 per cent from 2001. But all the news wasn't good. Statistics for all aircraft types, Eastern and Western-built, show there were 94 accidents last year, up from 90 in 2009, while fatal accidents rose to 23 from 18.
