Latin America feels a bit closer with flight discounts

The buy: Globus and sister company Monograms have put the air portion of a wide range of 2014 vacations in Central and South America on sale.

The savings: $300 a person.

The catch: You have to book air through Globus by Aug. 27.

Why it's worth it: Globus is launching seven escorted tours ranging from eight to 16 days, including a 13-day Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia cruise and tour. In addition, Monograms, the independent prepackaged vacation brand, is unveiling 15 itineraries to South and Central America, including four tours: six-day Brazil Highlights, six-day Colours of Guatemala, eight-day Cruising the Galapagos on Board the La Pinta and nine-day In the Footsteps of Darwin on the Santa Cruz and Isabela Islands.

The buy: Luxury chain Rosewood Hotels & Resorts gives you a choice of special offers this summer.

The savings: A free night or among the lowest rates of the year plus breakfast.

The catch: You have to travel by Sept. 30.

Why it's worth it: Rosewood has properties in Vancouver, New York, Dallas, California and Bermuda, plus three in Mexico and three in the Caribbean. The Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver and the Carlyle, a Rosewood Hotel, in New York are both centrally located and offer a third night free. Resort properties include Rosewood Mayakoba on the Mayan Riviera and Jumby Bay, a Rosewood Resort, on Antigua.

The catch: The promotion ends Sept. 13 and you have to register online.
