At the theme park

Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Avengers are headed to Dubai. Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment and a local partner have broken ground on an indoor family entertainment centre in the emirate. Called Marvel Adventure and set to open in late 2013, it will be part of a larger City of Arabia amusement complex. Disney bought Marvel in 2009 but has yet to introduce its characters in its own parks. Under an earlier licensing agreement, Universal Studios uses them at its Islands of Adventure park in Florida.

In the air

Air passengers aren't happy with an Airbus proposal to provide extra-wide seats for overweight passengers. In a survey by Skyscanner, a European travel search site, more than four in five respondents opposed a plan that would increase the width of aisle seats to 20 inches (50.8 centimetres) while shrinking window and middle seats to 17 inches. Typically, all seats are now 18 inches wide. The worry is that airlines would charge a premium for the wide seats while leaving the cost of the others unchanged.

On the go

When it comes to vacations, women rule. According to a survey by Teletext Holidays, a British travel agency, women take the lead in choosing the destination, shopping for holiday clothes, booking the transport and packing. The role of men is limited to getting the family to the airport, toting the luggage and driving while abroad. Half of the women surveyed prefer to handle the holiday cash. And 43 per cent don't even trust their male partner to carry his own passport.
